Kelaniya

Sri Lankan Buddhists believe that the Buddha visited Kelaniya in order to quell a quarrel between two Naga leaders of two warring factions: Chulodara (literally "the small-bellied one") and Mahodara (literally "the big-bellied one"). They were quarreling over a jewel-encrusted throne. After the Buddha showed them the futility of their quarrel they converted to Buddhism and together offered the throne to the Buddha. It is believed that the Dagaba (Sthupa or Buddhist temple) seen today was built with the throne as a relic inside. 

Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya 

This has become famous because of the beautiful paintings and sculpture  depicting various events in the history of Sri Lanka. 

Jaffna

Historically, Jaffna has been a contested city. The majority of the city’s population are Sri Lankan Tamils, although there was a significant number of Sri Lankan Moors, Indian Tamils and other ethnic groups present in the city prior to the civil war. Most Sri Lankan Tamils are Hindus followed by Christians, Muslims and a small Buddhist minority. The city is home to number of educational institutions established during the colonial and post-colonial period. It also has number of commercial institutions, minor industrial units, banks, hotels and other government institutions such as the hospital. It is home to the popular Jaffna library that was burnt down and rebuilt. The city is anchored by the Jaffna Fort rebuilt during the Dutch colonial period.

A little about Kandy

The city of Kandy is one that is well-known for its beauty as well as its cultural significance. It is regarded as the gateway to the hill country.

As a start its good to start with 'Dalada Maligawa', where the relic of Lord Buddha is housed. Since it is the most significant place in Kandy and almost all Srilankans must have been visited this place at-least once in their life.
